This deed proves that Jacob had AT LEAST four sons. It is not known if Edward Sleater was counted as one of them or if there were other sons not involved in the transaction. We do not know if Jacob had any daughters, and we do not know which wife was the mother of his offspring. What we do know is that Jacob Lasswell had FOUR SONS; that the second son was John Lasswell and the fourth son was Andrew Lasswell. That leaves the question "Who were the first and third sons of Jacob Lasswell". From census records it is quite clear that Moses Lasswell was one of the sons.
That would leave Elias and William Lasswell, Sr., to account for in early Virginia history. I have seen and lost a record where Jacob stated his brother Isaac's wife Jane went to North Carolina with their child soon after Isaac's death. I personally believe that child was William Lasswell born abt 1719 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland and became the Patriarch of all of the North Carolina branch of the Lasswell/Laswell family.
Based on the following Record it is assumed that this Andrew Lasswell (Rev. War.) was the fourth son of Jacob Lasswell of Virginia:

We can assume that Andrews mother was Elizabeth because the first child would normally have been born in 1725, the second in 1727, the third in 1729 and the fourth in 1731 had Rebecca been the mother. This is not always true but is a reasonably accurate presumption.

Andrew Lasswell served in the Revolutionary War in a regiment commanded by Colonel Nathaniel Gist, from 1778-1780. He did not apply for a pension. Muster records are available.

The wife of Andrew Lasswell was furnished supplies on 14 December 1778 while Andrew was in the service in the Revolutionary War. (GLEANINGS OF VIRGINIA HISTORY by Boogher on page 220, Supplies Furnished Soldiers Wives - Loudoun County.
Page 220: Andrew Laswell; Leven Powell is to furnish the necessaries of life to the wife of the soldier. December 14, 1778 Chapter: "Loudoun County in the Revolution". (This establishes Andrew's date of birth to Bef 1757 (1778-21=1757)

On the home front, no Red Coat ever marched down the Ashby's Gap Road, and the only American soldiers the area ever saw were some raggle-taggle contingents walking between Winchester and Alexandria. Nearly all of the eighty - or - so white males in Levin POWELL's taxation district (from about Macville north and west to Goose Creek) were in the militia, and some enlisted. Not until May, 1780, did the Commonwealth order a draft, setting the county's quota at 117. Interpolating from the county's population, six of those 17 would have come from Levin POWELL's district.
Families of those off to war were given food by the gentry, who were reimbursed by the county court. From the Middleburg area there was only one such case. In mid-December, 1778 the county court ordered 'Levin POWELL to furnish Andrew LASSWELL with Necessaries.' ..."
