William moved his family to the Forks of the Yadkin River area of North Carolina during the Revolution. They became Tories (Loyalists). At this time approximately 1/3 of the population were "Patriots"; 1/3 were "Loyalists"; and 1/3 were neutral. As the Lasswells were originally from England, they felt some allegiance towards the King and the Forks of the Yadkin in Surry Co., North Carolina was a hotbed of Toryism. Perhaps because the famous Tory leader, Col. John Bryan lived there at the time. The Lasswells came into Rowan County, North Carolina sometime before Sept. 12, 1761. William had a survey performed on that date for 53 acres in the Forks of the Yadkin, about 200 yards above Hanging Rock. William apparently left North Carolina in 1794 with Benjamin Lasswell (Lacefield), his son and William Lasswell, Jr. William's sons Daniel and Joseph along with William, the son of William, Jr went to Tennessee."
