Notes - David Blevins was my 4th great-grandfather; I am a descendant of David and Sarah's oldest son Hugh T. Blevins. Along with my DNA results, we have results for a descendant of David's youngest son, John T. Blevins. Both of us share two specific and unusual mutations, one of which is unique only to us and the other of which is found in a few other Blevins lines of northeastern TN. David was almost certainly a brother to Hardin Blevins and the main reason I have offered to pay for a Hardin descendant DNA test is to prove or disprove this relationship. Moses and Allen Blevins may have been David's brothers as well - they certainly moved in the same circles - but I am trying to get DNA evidence on these men as well. I believe it is more likely that Allen was a nephew or cousin instead of a brother.
We have one (and only one) piece of documentary evidence relative to David's father. One of Hardin's grandsons wrote in his 1918 journal that Hardin's father was named James Blevins. If David and Hardin really were brothers, then David's father was also James Blevins. There is a deeply rooted tradition that David's mother was named Margaret Hardin. I have located the original source of this tradition and I can tell you there is absolutely no evidence to support it. David's mother's name remains an unknown.
We have a wealth of circumstantial evidence that places both David and Hardin (and several of the oldest children) in Sullivan County, TN prior to their move to the Hiwassee District (Rhea and Meigs Counties, TN) in the 1820s. I have spend literally thousands of hours over the past several years examining the Blevins groups of northeast TN, trying to uncover and prove David's pedigree. I'd be happy to share my research with you if you are interested. Please contact me off list at yairi@lhtot.com
