- Springfield Leader; MRS. W. L. STURDEVANT; Mrs. Fern Clingman Sturdevant, 71, of 2237 North Douglas, died at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday in Cox Medical Center after a short illness. She was a native of Pleasant Hope, and was a retired teacher, having taught at Pleasant Hope and Study Elementary School in Springfield for several years. Mrs. Sturdevant was also a member of Central Christian Church and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband, W.L.; a step-son, Carl Sturdevant, Rehoboth Beach, Del.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Sandra Towner, Fremont, Calif.; three brothers, Gail Clingman, Walnut Grove, Ray Clingman, Sioux Falls, S.D., Kime Clingman, Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Shewmaker, Springfield, and Mrs. Mildred Garrett, Bolivar; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn North Chapel with the Rev. Michael McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
