Marge's second husband, Bill Ijams, was a Terre Haute native. I have no contact or genealogy records of either of her husbands. Marge lived there most of her life...then she and Bill built a home on Paint Mill Lake about 7 miles south of TH...then they began wintering in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. Finally, cancer and other physical problems took her and she is buried in the big cemetery on TH east side (Highland Lawn). I can go right to her grave. I sort of hate her being buried there since she has no family near her.she is buried in the Ijams family plot. buried @ sea: 26.233333, -80.016667

South Florida Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL) - May 15, 2004 Deceased Name: Ijams, William "Bill" Putnam II of Pompano Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2004 at the age of 86. Mr. Ijams was born in Terra Haute, IN, on September 4, 1917. He attended Rose Polytechnic Institute and The University of the South (Swanee). During World War II, Mr. Ijams served in the Army in the Philippines and in the occupation of Japan. He returned to civilian life in 1946, and he joined the Terra Haute First National Bank. He was an active member of the Terra Haute Elks Club, and of the American Legion, rising to leadership positions in both organizations. During these early years, he developed a deep interest in auto racing, and he enjoyed this sport throughout his life. In the late 60s, Mr. Ijams and his first wife, Marge, began to spend more and more of their time boating in the Virgin Islands. They spent many days motor boating their yacht, the Mariska, around the Caribbean. After his retirement, the islands became their second home. In 1985, after the death of his first wife, Mr. Ijams married Mary Katherine Downey of Plattsburg, MO, and they settled in Pompano Beach, FL. He was a member of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club, and continued to be a boating enthusiast until a couple of years ago. Predeceased by his wife in 1999, Mr. Ijams is survived by four stepchildren, Brant Downey, Plattsburg, MO, Bruce Downey, Washington, DC, Kathy Downey, Liberty, MO, and Denis Downey, Blue Springs, and by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A member of the Neptune Society, Mr. Ijams elected to have his remains scattered at sea. For those who wish to remember Mr. Ijams, the family suggests donations to The University of the South, General Development Fund, Swanee, TN 37383-1000.
