- 2009 I knew there had to be a correction about Dixie when I saw her birth date on the census that you sent. Sure enough, I went back through the correspondence with my cousin who dug up so much information in Danville.
First, I found this comment (and then forgot all about it...duh) that I had written to her on 9-21-04, "Until I learn otherwise, I am assuming that Dixie Winegardner has to be Samantha "Dica" Roberts Winegardner. The family resemblance is striking. I remember mother and Warren mentioning Dixie in conversation, so my assumption was that she wasn't just someone they knew."
Then, on 9-22-04 I wrote, "I am relieved that my assumptions about Dixie Winegardner were correct. Dixie is Samantha Dica Bishop...It wasn't too much of a leap to go from Dica to Dixie."
So there you have it. Also, I am confident that all of the people are correctly identified in that reunion photo because Uncle Warren wrote their names on the back of the photo, row by row, for my mother. He was a grown man of 22 years when he left Danville, and he knew all of the family. Dixie was his aunt, and the half-sister of his mother, Barbara.
Oh, one more thing...this is all I have about the rest of Bolivar's family, "This was the third marriage for Bolivar. He and his first wife had Mahala Bishop who married Joseph M. Spicer as his second wife. Bolivar and his second wife, Rachael, had Perry, Lucinda and how many more we don't know."
