- Richard L. Scott 62, English, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11:39 p.m. at his home. Born Feb. 12, 1949, in Crawford County, he was the son of Erma Mills Scott of Grantsburg and the late Paul Scott. He was a 1966 graduate of English-Sterling High School and held various factory jobs before joing the Indiana State Police on April 1, 1972. He served as a trooper, polygraph operator, detective, and diversion investigator with the drug section before retiring Dec. 31, 1998, after being elected as the sheriff of Crawford County and serving two terms. In January 2008, he was hired as an internal affairs officer for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Fraud and Security Section covering Soutwest Indiana. He was a member of Cornerstone Chapel Church in Grantsburg. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Diana Hendrick; two children, Shawn Scott of Marengo and Kimberly Howerton of English; a sister, Barbara Rider of New Albany; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation: Monday, July 25, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 26, after 9 a.m. at Hillview Christian Church near Marengo. Arrangements: Denbo Funeral Home in English. Funeral: Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at the church with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery in Grantsburg Officiant: The Rev. Kevin Stillwell.
