      George Warren Cox Birth: Feb. 1, 1921 Lawrenceville Lawrence County Illinois, USA Death: Dec. 24, 1995 Springfield Sangamon County Illinois, USA George Warren Cox, 74, of Mattoon, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon, with Rev. Kenneth Cox officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the gravesite by Richland Post #30 and VFW Post #4226. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park near Claremont. Visitation will be today at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church. Cox was born Feb. 1, 1921 in Lawrenceville, the son of Percy Douglas and Mae Belle (McGuire) Cox. He married Beatrice Juanita Miller in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1991. Cox was a retired Eastern Division Power foreman for Central Illinois Public Service, having worked for CIPS for 43 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the 12th Armored Division Association C Company 23rd Tank Battalion and a member of Family Campers & RV's Association, Southern Illinois Retirees Camping Group, Drifting Dreamers Camping Group, AARP, Eagles Lodge #3438 of Mattoon, Mattoon Senior Citizens Center and The Illini Retirees Chapter 1996. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 2nd, 3rd and 12th Armored Division, which traveled across southern Germany and France with General Patton. He is survived by one son, Bruce Cox, of Philo; one daughter, Joyce St. Michael, and her husband, Justin, of Mattoon; three brothers, Rev. John Cox, of Brookport, Jim Cox, of Champaign, and Abe Cox, of Greenfield, Ind.; two sisters, Eva Corder, of Roswell, Ga., and Ruby McCormick, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Seth J. Cox, Graham Acen Cox, Brandon St. Michael, Colin St. Michael, Cameron St. Michael, Evan St. Michael and Chelsea St. Michael; and one special friend, Millie Moore, of Mattoon.
