Burie's brother, Claude, had heard of the boom times in the Florida phosphate business. He had found work with the American Agriculture Chemical Company in Polk County, and wrote to Burie of the easy employment and good pay. On October 30, 1920, Burie and Maggie pulled up their Georgia roots for the last time and headed for the Tiger Bay phosphate mines near Ft. Meade, Florida.
