From: Richard Byrd Sent: Thursday, October 08, 2009 Subject: Jonathan Bird questions; Hi Ron, I just began searching the family tree a few months ago, so I am indeed a novice. I happened upon a family tree you posted that included our direct descendent, Jonathan Bird. The information that you have provided as far as his wife, Rachael Sweet and one child, Sarah is correct. Jonathan also had Rachel, James Luther, and Abraham Sweet. I will be glad to give you more information on that family tree if you would like. Just let me know. I am most interested in Jonathan's father, who I understand was Abraham. They resided in Virginia (or Tennessee or North Carolina, depending on the map at the time), and subsequently moved to Kentucky, and later, Indiana. If you have any information about him, or any other suggestions, I would really appreciate it. We have struggled with the websites and they tend to get a bit exasperating, although I am almost certain that his family came to North Carolina via New Jersey. I appreciate your post! Joni

From: Richard Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 Ron, I am researching the Byrd (Bird) family tree and found your information on the Crawford County Indiana website about Jonathan and his daughter Sarah. We are direct descendants of Jonathan and Sarah and I'm trying to find information on his father who we believe was Abraham from Virginia (North Carolina, or Tennessee). Jonathan owned land in Crawford county in the early 1800s. The family moved north where Jonathan and his son James Luther held land in Putnam county and his son Abraham Sweet held land in Montgomery county. Prior to that, the family held land in Barren/Allen county Kentucky and Greene county Tennessee. My father in law owns the farm established in Montgomery county around 1835. If you have any further information about Jonathan, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm new to this but believe that this lineage goes back to Bird families of New Jersey who ultimately relate (a few lines back) to the Byrd's of Westover Virginia. I have a ton of information if you need anything. Let me know. Thanks, Joni

11/13/2009 Proposed Change: Jonathan Bird; Description: I believe that Jonathan Byrd was born ~ 1752 in VA, d. 4 Oct 1827 in Putnam Co. IN. His known children are: Abraham Sweet Byrd b. 6 Jan 1785 VA, d. 23 Aug 1849 Montgomery Co. IN; Aaron Byrd b. 1786 probably VA, d. ABT 1817 in IN; Rachel Byrd b. ~ 1792 and m. Lewis Powell d. unknown, IN; James Luther Byrd b. 5 Jan 1801 Barren Co KY, d. 1884 Cass Co IA; There were other children of Jonathan and Rachel Sweet, between the dates of 1783 - 1803. It is unlikely that Sarah was one of those chidren. David Bird (probably a relative to Jonathan) was b. 1750 Greene Co TN and had a daughter Sarah that was born 5 Jul 1775, she most likely m. John Seaton 28 Dec 1793 in Greene Co. TN, and Sarah d. 26 Sep 1828 in Crawford Co IN; Rachel Sweet was b. 1765 and did not m. Jonathan until 1783 in Washington Co VA, which would make them unlikely to have had Sarah. There is also no proof of any of these Bird/Byrd lines being related to the Byrd's of Westover, however this line is so tangled up and so many mis-conceptions being added all the time that I guess anything is possible. The Byrd DNA project is working on these matters, and an excellent GEDcom is the one of Marla Moore on the World Connect Ancestry site, Marla has used a lot of factual proven evidence in her GEDcom.
