Thanks for the higher resolution pictures of the grave of W. S. Peterson. I needed to see what the top ID number of the grave was - 8229. I am attaching a web site of Civil War graves in the Nashville National Cemetery to show you that this is not my GGG-Grandfather.

Search for surnames starting with "P" and scroll down the list to William S. Peterson, Section 'G', #8229 (as listed on the grave marker in the pictures) and you will see that he died in 1864 as a Corporal. My William Peterson died 12/31/1862 and was a Private. I don't know who gave you this picture, but they found the wrong grave. There were several William Peterson's that died in the war and I did request his files from the National Archives years ago and found a little bit of new information on his family. They sent me a copy of his death record, but spelled his name as Patterson. You can search and find him in this list, also, in Section 'B' #6304. I also located information on his grave in a library book called "U.S. Quartermaster's Dept. Roll of Honor, Vol. XXII-XXIII Page 436". I am attaching a picture of his grave marker with his granddaughter, Mae, beside it. It may have been a wrong William Peterson also. Markings are unreadable in the picture. I'm also attaching a few pages from the National Archives.
Ron, I read your writings about the Yates and Robersons that served and died in the Civil War. It was very interesting reading and you did a great job on it. You caught my eye when you gave details of the Muster Date and Location and the Company name. Those were the same ones I found on the papers from the National Archives. Now I know who went with William to enlist at New Albany. I always wondered if he went alone or if close friends and family members went also. He was pretty old to be enlisting at 40, but who knows what reasons he had to leave small children behind to fight in the war. He also became ill and was left at a Nashville Army Hospital and died from Dysentery. What a shame that all those brave men died from preventable illness (by today's standards). I read where some of the subjects came from Meade County, KY and I was looking for a link to my William. Maybe he was orphaned and taken in by some family that moved to Crawford or Harrison County, I haven't found much out there to research. I don't believe he is the William S. Peterson listed as a poet, but thanks for sending that information.
