- Solomon Weathers Birth: 1839 Crawford County Indiana, USA Death: Jul. 21, 1864 Georgia, USA Solomon was born in 1839 in Crawford Co., IN to parents Henry Henderson Weathers (1808-1902) and Elizabeth Alspaugh (1814-1881). The large Weathers family lived in Liberty Twp., Crawford Co., IN at the time of the 1850 U.S. Census. His siblings include: James M. (1830-1918) David N. (b. 1832) Matilda (b. 1834) Elijah (1836-1875; also Co. E, 38TH IND INF) Martha (b. 1842) Sarah M. (1844-1918) Cynthia Ann (b. 1846) Rachel Rebecca (1849-1890) Richard H.L. (1850-1929) Chloe (1852-1890) Laura E. (1856-1922) Mary C. (1858-1861) Isaac B. (b. 1859) Solomon worked as a farmer before the Civil War. On Nov. 2, 1860, he married Miss Eveline Burkhardt (1841-1863) in Crawford Co., IN. They had two children together prior to Solomon's enlistment in Co. E, 38th Indiana Infantry on Oct. 2, 1862: Sarah Catherine (1861-1928) Alice Greene (1862-1863) Weathers also served in the Marengo Light Guards, Indiana Legion in June 1861. In 1863, during his time in the 38th Indiana, Solomon suffered tremendous personal loss with the death of his 21-year-old wife Eveline on Jan. 14th and his 1-year-old daughter Alice on Aug. 7th. He was also wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, GA in Sept. of that year. Solomon Weathers was killed near Atlanta, GA on July 21, 1864 during Sherman's Atlanta Campaign.
