- Linnie B. Tilman Birth: Nov. 25, 1887 Dubois County Indiana, USA Death: Sep. 30, 1976 Hayti Pemiscot County Missouri, USA Services for Miss Linnie B. Tilman, 88, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville, with Rev. Ira Singleton and Rev. Allen Vancil officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She was born in DuBois County, Indiana on November 25, 1887, and died at the Pemiscot Memorial Medical Center in Hayti, on September 30. She was the daughter of the late Oliver and Mate Tilman. She attended schools in Indiana and the family moved from Indiana to Caruthersville, Missouri in 1908. Miss Tilman then attended the Terhune Business College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught the Gleaners Class. She also belonged to the Caruthersville Woman's Club; the B & P.W. Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 88. Miss Tilman was employed by the State of Missouri as a secretary of the Insurance Department and the Rehabilitation Department for 40 years before retiring. She then returned to Caruthersville and served as the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce for 7 years. Survivors include one brother, Austin Tilman of Caruthersville; one sister, Mrs. Edith Young of Caruthersville; one nephew, Robert O. Tilman, Raleigh, North Carolina and one niece, Mrs. George Cox of Memphis, Tennessee. Pallbearers were John Dunagan, Dr. C.F. Cain, Ralph Goodin, Alvin Dunavant, George Phipps and Bob Morgan.
