- Alice Esther Sanders Newman Birth: Dec. 18, 1908 Brookside Preston County West Virginia, USA Death: Dec. 10, 1991 Oakland Garrett County Maryland, USA Alice was the oldest of four children and the only daughter of the late Austin Pearl and Lulu Virginia Sophronia(Grimes) Sanders of Oakland, Maryland. She married her husband on 26 Sept 1934, at Oakland, Garrett, Maryland and lived with her husband at her father-in-laws dairy farm. Shortly after the death of her father-in-law in 1935, she and her husband moved to Keyser, West Virginia, where he want to work for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Walter C. Newman She was a homemaker, a devoted and loving wife and mother, and said to be the best cook in two states. As a young girl, growing up on her parents dairy farm, she aquired and cared for what would become her pet groundhog. She was a unique and caring person during her life time. She is survived by her son in Montana, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all in California.
