"Minerva Yates, daughter of John and Mary Yates, was born January 15, 1830 in Southern Indiana. She came with her parents when a small child to Illinois and located near Olney, at which place her father died. Her widowed mother and family of ten children then moved to Jasper county and located one mile north of Gila when Aunt Minerva, as she was known to the entire community, was about 16 years old. At the age of 14 she united with the U.B. Church at Olney, of which she was a member at the time of her death."
