How the Yates Brothers migrated to the Chicago area: "Dennie came first and bought the house and property by the lake. Then came Rox next, and according to Dennie, Carl and Leslie came "about the same time". The guys all lived there together for some time (I don't know if Polly was there cooking for them or not) and when they began finding their own places to live then brought their wives up. Then when Dennie and Polly got another place Rox and Ruth bought the lake property from Dennie. "

(Source: James R. Yates, Sr. 9/9/2009: Did I ever tell you of the time your Dad told my Dad and me about when he was working with cows for this farmer...an old cow was acting belligerent so he took her by the horns to try to direct her a certain way and one of her horns just broke off right in his hand! He was really surprised and it made impression enough on him to cause him to relate it to us....he was usually very quiet so when he came up with something like that..it was special....)
Sunday, November 01, 2009; The fourth guy from the left, next to the guy Fred has his arm around is still alive up Near Newman, IL...still on a farm...I talked to him this AM and was going to go up and visit him...they were gonna be gone so we'll do it another time...I was telling him about this picture and he has it too! May 25, 2012; on this date in 1924 my father Carl Bernell Yates was born in the Yates family home at 101 E Lincoln Ave, Chrisman, IL 61924. His was a short life dying at age 31 working hard to support his young wife and two children. He has been dead now 57 years, almost twice as long as he lived and is buried in Woodland Cemetery. It is a sweet memory when I reflect back now with a 9 year old child's perspective. I still get flashes of old memories and can place them in context. He set a good foundation for me and I would like to have known him as an adult. A loving Son, Ron Yates
