"Abram" Yates Birth: Jan. 16, 1878 Yonkers Westchester County New York, USA Death: Aug. 27, 1943 Fort Greene Kings County (Brooklyn) New York, USA From The Yonkers Herald Statesman, Wednesday, August 25, 1943: "Abram J. Yates Former Church Soloist. BROOKLYN — Abram J. Yates, former baritone soloist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Yonkers for 15 years, died after a several weeks' illness at the Cumberland State Hospital, Brooklyn. He was the son of the late James and Ida Suydam Yates of Yonkers. Before his illness he has been employed as a machinist in a Brooklyn war plant and had lived here for several years. He leaves his wife, Nell Yates of Edgerly, Pa; a son, Stanley Yates of Astoria, L.I.; a daughter, Mrs. William Koch of Queens Village, L.I.; and two brothers, Allen Yates of Peekskill and Herbert Yates of Bristol, Pa. Another brother, Edwin Yates, died June 22 at Philadelphia Naval Hospital from gas poisoning received in World War I. The body is reposing at the Fairfield Funeral Parlor, 164th Street, Jamaica, L. I. Funeral services will be held from there on Friday."
