William B Ryan Birth: 1886 Death: 1927 The entire community was grieved and shocked to hear Tuesday at noon that the body of William B. Ryan, prominent business man and member of the firm of Ryan Bros., had been found cold in death in the firm's warehouse. Although the time of the suicide was established as some time about 9 o'clock, the body was concealed from view in the back of the warehouse behind stacks of furniture, and was not found until about 11:30, when B. F. Eddie, connected with the firm, found the body lying face downward upon the floor. The gun, with which he ended his life was under the body. No motive could be ascribed for the act, except the fact that he had been in ill-health for the past two years. About a year ago he suffered a nervous breakdown, and the supposition is that he has recently felt that another attack, similar to that suffered the year before was coming upon him again, and that it had preyed upon his mind to such an extent that it caused him to take his life rather then go through with it again. His financial affairs were in good shape and his domestic life extremely happy. Mr. Ryan came to work Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, it was stated, going to the warehouse shortly afterwards. One of the men connected with the firm was at the warehouse when My. Ryan came, but left shortly after Mr. Ryan's arrival, and it is thought that the suicide happened a short time afterwards. Mr. Ryan was born in Palatka and lived here until about twenty years of age, when he went to Kentucky, where he married and lived until the death of his father some ten or twelve years ago when he, with his two brothers, took over their father's furniture business which they have successfully conducted ever since. He was a devoted member of St. Monica's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife and three children, William, Martha Lee, and Robert; one brother, C. B. Ryan of this city, and by one sister, Mrs. A. B. Mahoney, of Sanford, Fla. The funeral was held at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Catholic Church; the interment being in the family section in the Catholic cemetery. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.
