Andrew did go into Surry County North Carolina. I wrote to both Donna Carr and Marla Giblen Lientz and I am enclosing their replies below. jjdjcarr@aol.com

Hi Jack,, Nice to hear from you again. There are two other early Henry Lasswell/Lacewell/Lacefield, etc census records: 1800 – Jefferson Co., Kentucky - Henry Lacewell (Kentucky – Early Census Index) - born at least by 1779) 1820 – Bainbridge Twp, Dubois Co., Indiana - Henry Laisfield (Indexed on Ancestry as Lacefield) - One male 45 and over (born before 1775) Patoka Twp., Dubois Co., Indiana John Laiswell (Indexed on Ancestry as Lasswell) Possibly the son of Henry Laisfield/etc. 3 males 0-10 (1810-1820) 1 male 10-16 (1804-1810) 1 male 16-18 (1802-1804) 1 male 26-45 (1775-1794) John Laiswell 2 females - 10 (1810-1820) 1 female 26-45 (1775-1794) (Mrs. John Laswell ======================================= Henry Lasswell - Born about 1786. Some family trees have him born in Caswell County, North Carolina. His children state that he and his wife were born in Virginia. 2 Caswell County, North Carolina is on the border of Virginia and North Carolina, three counties further east than Surry County and bordering the Virginia county of Pittsylvania. The Henry Lasswell/etc. who was on the 1850 Hamilton Co., Illinois census was married in Davidson Co., Tennessee in 1819, was on the 1820 and 1830 Davidson Co., Census, and moved to Hamilton Co., Illinois by 1836 when he bought property there. So who were his parents? The family trees say Andrew William Lasswell, the son of Jacob Laswell. {Where was his middle name found? How was it determined?} so, Could he have been born in North Carolina? I have not done a tax search in Caswell County, North Carolina so cannot speak to whether any Lasswell’s may have lived there. I have done a tax search in Surry County, North Carolina with these results based on microfilm called “ Surry County North Carolina Record Deeds, No. C, 1781-1800" --- these records are, in fact, the tax records for 1790 -1798. 1790 Captain Calvard’s District Lauwell, Andrew 100 acres 1 poll Captain Edward’s District Laufield, Joseph 1 poll 1791 Captain Edward’s District Lasswell, Joseph 1 poll 1792 Captain Jone’s District Lacewell, Andrew 1 poll 1793 Captain Edward’s District Laswell, Joseph 1 poll Captain Jone’s District Lasewell, Andrew 1 poll 1794 Captain Edwards District Laswill, Joseph 1 poll 1795 Oglesby’s District Laswell, Joseph 1 poll So, there was an Andrew Laswell/etc in North Carolina in the 1790’s. We know there is an Andrew Laswell born before 1743 to Jacob Laswell and that in 1771 be was on the tax rolls of that county. There was one taxable male and 5 others in the household, likely a wife and 4 kids. This Andrew Laswell served in the Revolutionry War and in 1778 Levin Powell was ordered “to furnish Andrew Lasswell with necessaries”. This Andrew had a number of children and then, we know, he moved out of Virginia. Could the family have moved to North Carolina for a number of years and could he be Henry Lasswell’s father? 3 We know this Andrew Lasswell had children named Catherine, born about 1778, Andrew, born about 1781, Polly born about 1783 and Thomas born about 1784. Could Henry Lasswell be next in line born in 1786? And could this Andrew have been the Andrew who was in Surry Co., North Carolina from at least 1790 through 1793? We have information that "Laswell, Andrew [son of Andrew] was born in Feb. 1781 in Loudon (sic) county, VA. When thirteen years old, he went on a pack-horse, in company with his brothers and sisters, to Shelby County, KY.” By John C. Power, Published by Wilson, Springfield, Illinois, 1876. Page 444 Is it possible that, rather than traveling from Virginia to Kentucky when Andrew [son of Andrew] was 13, that he and his siblings left North Carolina in 1794, when he was 13, and traveled to Kentucky? So then, is it possible that Henry Lasswell, [possible son of Andrew and sibling to Catherine, Andrew, Polly and Thomas,] was the Henry Lacewell who was in Jefferson County, Kentucky in 1800? And the answer to that question is NO, he was not old enough. The Henry Laswell who was in Jefferson Co., KY in 1800 COULD have been the same Henry who was in Dubois Co., Indiana in 1820, however. Is it possible that Henry Lasswell, [possible son of Andrew and sibling of Andrew, Thomas, Catherine and Polly] traveled with his siblings into Kentucky where he lived until he was old enough to strike out on his own. Is it possible that he then went into Tennessee where a large number of people were immigrating. If he was in Tennessee in 1810 we won’t find census records for him since they have almost all been lost. But he was located in Davidson Co., TN in 1819 and 1820. So, if in fact, Henry Lasswell, born 1786, was born to an Andrew, could he have been born to the Andrew Laswell found in Washington Co., Virginia in 1810? Washington Co, Virginia is on the North Carolina/Virginia border and just a little bit west of the Surry/Wilkes county lines. In 1810 there was an Andrew Laswell in Washington Co., VA who was born before 1765 and, therefore, old enough to be Henry Lasswell’s father (assuming that his father was at least 20 when he was born in 1786). However, if this Andrew is the father of other Laswell’s in Washington Co., VA, then he was born at least by 1753. 1810 Washington Co., VA; Pg. 221 as Andw Laswell 1 male 10-16 (1794-1800) 1 male over 45 (before 1765) Andrew 1 female 10-16 (1794-1800) 1 female 16-26 (1784-1794) 1 female over 45 (before 1765) (wife) Also in Washington Co., VA in 1810 were John Laswell: {Son of the above Andrew?} 1810-Washington Co., Virginia, Pg. 218 as John Laswell 4 males under 10 (1800-1810) Andrew (1803), John Jr. (1807), ?, ? 1 male 10-16 (1794-1800) ? 1 male 26-45 (1765-1784) John Laswell (1773) 3 females under 10 (1800-1810) ?, ?, Sarah 1 female 16-26 (1784-1794) Wife - Susan Dolan And William Laswell. 1810-Washington Co., Virginia - Pg. 226 Wm Lazwell 1 male 10-16 (1794-1800) (John William Lasswell) 1 male 26-45 (1765-1784) William Laswell m.
