    • Elizabeth McGregor John Birth: Feb. 1, 1850 Midlothian, Scotland Death: Aug. 21, 1937 Pleasant Hope Polk County Missouri, USA Born in Edinburgh. Came to the US on the ship Robert L. Lane, which entered New York on 8 Jun 1857 under tow. The ship went aground near Shelburne, Nova Scotia, and it is unknown whether her family disembarked there or in NY. This shipwreck confirms the family oral history of the event. Daughter of Thomas McGregor and Elizabeth Wright. Wife of Cephus Day John. Mother of Grace Agnes (Hoy), Marion Verdilia (Burns), Rhoda Elizabeth (Clingman), and Nellie Blanche John. OBITUARY Elizabeth McGregor John was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, February 1st 1850. Died at her home in Pleasant Hope, Missouri August 21st 1937. Age 87 years and six months, 21 days. She came with her parents to the United States of America at age of seven years and settled in Madison Indiana, later moving to Rockford Illinois, where she married C.D. John in the year 1871. To this union was born four daughters: Mrs Grace Hoy of Norman, Okla; Mrs Manie Burns and Miss Nell of the home; and Mrs Rhoda Clingman who preceded her in death. She was patient throughout her illness, always thanking her friends for their kindness and attendence during her sickness. She talked of her home beyond the skies, and was to meet her dear Lord and Master. She is survived by three daughters, seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. One brother, three sisters and many neices and nephews and friends. Her sister Mrs Hellen Monks and son George were present at the time of her death. Her consecrated life and Christian character manifested itself in her devotion and service to her Lord and Master, and the community in which she lived for many years. She has earned her award "Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant, Enter into the Joy of the Lord".
