Here's a story from my mother (yes, she-of-few-stories) as told to her by Winfield. Apparently, Jeptha and Lincoln (yes, Abraham, before he became president) were friends and Lincoln visited them in their home more than once. I checked the dates a couple of years ago to see if this was chronologically possible, and yes, it could have been true. Of course, Winfield would have been just a boy, but that would be an event that anyone would have remembered.]
