- SOURCE: Courtney Burge, Oct. 2009: Notes for Joshua Angel: JOSHUA ANGEL was born in Stokes County, NC about 1783-1788. He married Mary (Polly) V. (Vincent) Grantor about 1806. The family left NC in 1816 or 1817 and crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains using pack horses. They settled in Gallia County, OH for a few years, then moved farther down the Ohio River valley. Joshua and his children came down the Ohio River by flatboat and settled near Evansville, IN on Pollack Ave on both sides of the Warrick-Vanderburgh County line. Mathias and Anderson on the southside of Pollack Ave and Hampton on the north side. Jackson settled in Newburgh, IN. The land settled by Mathias contained Indian Burial Mounds and is now Angel Mounds State Park. Granton: The middle initial "V" may have been Vincent.
