  8/4/2013; SOURCE: Hello Ron. First I want to congratulate you on your research and very fine work. I'm not nearly that organized! My connection to the Yates is not on a gedcom yet. However, here's what I know My father, Clyde O. Jones was the son of Wm. Levi Jones, b-abt 1893 and Melinda Yates, b-abt 1885. Both born in Dallas County, MO near Plad. Melinda(Lennie) was the daughter of Robert Roy Yates, born in Illinois abt. 1848 and Margaret Gammon. Levi, as he was known, died in Springfield,MO in 1964. Melinda died in 1907 in Plad, MO when my dad was only 3 1/2 yrs old. Robert Yates was the son of James Elfrates Yates, born abt 1812 in KY and Martha Dickerson.. I've been told that James was 100 pct. Cherokee Indian. James was the son of Jowl (possibly Joel) Yates. Jowl (or Joel) Yates was married to Susan Jones, ancestry Choctaw Indian, both from Virginia. Father of Jowl was Phillip Yates, possibly a clan chief, Cherokee tribe. Note: Other sons of James Elfrates and Martha were: Emmerson, George, Press, and Ruben. Thanks for sharing your info. Bruce
