      William Slaughter Yates Birth: Dec. 4, 1826, USA Death: Dec. 9, 1907, USA Company H, 33rd Virginia Infantry, Stonewall Brigade, Johnson's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. Residence Page County VA; 36 years old; 5' 9.0", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair. Enlisted on 2/15/1863 as a Private, he mustered into "H" Co. VA 33rd Infantry. Promoted to Corporal (date not given). Absent Without Leave 6/11/1863 - 8/1863. On rolls 12/1863. 3/25/1865 Petersburg, VA. was severely wounded by gunshot in left leg, which required amputation below the knee; POW, ; transferred 3/27/1865 City Point, VA.; admitted 3/29/1865 US Steamer "Connecticut" Hospital; Oath of Allegiance, released 6/14/1865 Lincoln General Hospital, Wash., DC. In February, 1884 he applied to the Virginia Confederate Pension board for a disability pension as his articial leg is useless, and he is now fully disabled. He was approved for a full disability pension in March 1886. The 33rd Infantry Regiment was organized during the early summer of 1861 with men from the counties of Hampshire, Shenandoah, Frederick, Hardy, Page, and Rockingham.
