  THOMAS YATES (William; William) married Anna Griffen in Harrison County, West Virginia; According to the death records of Taylor County, Annie Yates died 19 December 1895, age 89, of "old age," reported by her son J. D. Yates. Thomas Yates, farmer, wrote his will 13 October 1863 and it was probated in Taylor County 10 November 1863 In it he mentions his wife Annie; a daughter Frances and a son Adolphus Armstrong, under age; and his son James Davidson, v/ho is 11 also to pay each one of ray children now of age $25 thirty days after my decease and to each not of age $25 when of age*" He also mentioned a niece, Elizabeth Sinsel, in his will* Robert Lowe was the executor and Peter W. Knight, Andrew II* Ilertzog and F. A. Cather, witnesses. In the 1850 census of Taylor County, Vest Virginia, Thomas Yates, farmer, is 40; wife Annie 40; children as listed below; with Penelope Griffen 80 and Francis Griffen 30 also living with them* In i860: Thomas Yates, 48; Anna 47; children as listed below; and Elizabeth Sinsel 2 also in their home.
