Notes - Son of Richard Yates and Mary Pitt of Culpepper Co., Virginia. Came to Cabell County, Va. (WV) in 1826 with his wife, Elizabeth Lillard, and family. Other children were born in Cabell County. Owned a large track of land in Cabell County located on Howell's Mill road in Ona, WV. The homestead is still owned by Burdette family members today and contains one of the oldest standing slave quarters in the state.William Pitt Yates was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and all dated information enclosed in this burial record and Biography is inscribed on the tombstone except for emigration date.
