    • Leon Burdette Anderson, 93, of Brewer Place, Westfield, died Thursday (Dec. 29, 2005) at the Waters of Westfield. He was born Dec. 2, 1912 in Jamestown, the son of Carl A. and Carrie Howe Anderson.

      He was a Chautauqua County resident most of his life, moving from Lakewood to Westfield in 1921. He was educated in the Westfield Schools, a member of the Westfield High School Class of 1932. Anderson moved to Brush Valley, Pa., where he managed the Brush Valley General Store for three years. Moving back to Westfield in 1939, he worked as a machinist for various local companies. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Following his military service, he was a Westfield Police Officer for 11 years. He was later employed by the New York State Thruway Authority, retiring in 1971. Mr. Anderson was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Westfield, where he had served as a trustee. He was a life member of the John W. Rogers Post of the American Legion in Westfield, and a life member of the Chautauqua County Deputy Sheriff's Association.

      He was married Aug. 1, 1970 to Frances Dibble Blackburn Anderson, who survives him. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Marybelle Beigh of Westfield; a stepson, the Reverend John (Bonnie) Blackburn of Sherburne, N.Y.; a special niece, Carla Marcus (Robert) Sperry of Black Mountain, N.C.; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Sperry of Kansas City, Mo., Timothy (Linda) Sperry of Griffin, Ga. (now serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq), David (Amy) Sperry of Black Mountain, Mark Hall of San Francisco, Mara (Andrew) Cook of Panama, Christy (David) Brewster of Dayton, Ohio, Megan (Michael) Rodriguez of Sherburne, and Chandra (William) Cruz of Locke, N.Y.; 13 great-grandchildren: Katie and Rebecca Sperry, Carolena Sperry, Alyssa, Jonathan and Rebecca Cook, Jennifer, Jessica, Julia and Josephine Brewster, Alexander, Tyler and Owen Rodriguez; also several nephews and nieces.

      Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are his first wife, Esther Steward Anderson; two sons: Carl Stewart Anderson, who died in infancy, and David Paul Anderson, killed in Vietnam in 1968; two brothers: Lowell and Kermit (KIA in WWII); and two sisters: Maxine Wood and Irene Marcus.
