- Jean Ann Ahlfeld, 80, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Carmel. She has gone home to be with her Lord.
She was born August 13, 1932 in Mt. Carmel, the daughter of Grant and Helen (Peterson) McTaggart. She was the third of three children. Her father died when the children were young, and the family moved into the Charley and Fern Peterson household. Her grandparents helped raise Jean Ann and her sisters. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1950 as a member of the National Honor Society.
She married Clyde Allen Ahlfeld on September 27, 1951 at the First Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2012 after 60 years of marriage. Jean Ann was a homemaker and a faithful, active member of Trinity (First) United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel. She was active with the United Methodist Women, the Deborah Circle, and was a leader of the church's prayer chain. Jean Ann was also a member of the Wabash Valley Walk to Emmaus community of faith. She loved her family very much. She liked to travel and took many trips to visit her family and friends over the years until she was no longer physically able. She enjoyed painting with oils, tole painting, making ceramics, using the computer and writing her family's life story.
Jean Ann is survived by four sons: Stephen (Shirley) Ahlfeld of Bells, TX; Dr. William (Susan) Ahlfeld of Ft. Branch, IN; Dan (Lori) Ahlfeld of Kodak, TN and Robert Ahlfeld of Mt. Carmel; sisters Barbara McChesney of El Paso, TX and Norma (Randall) Swain of Mt. Carmel; sisters-in-law Jean Rusk of Olney, IL; Evelyn (Larry) Tennyson of Streamwood, IL; Irmagene Ahlfeld of Evansville, IN; four grandchildren, Eric (Stacia) Ahlfeld, Melanie (Mike) Hilliard, Jennifer Ahlfeld and Ted (Lauren) Ahlfeld; two great-grandchildren, Ivy Hilliard and Isaac Ahlfeld; four step-grandchildren, Debra Christman, Barry (Jamie) Sampson, Kenny Kilroy and Natalie (Wayne) Steigerwald; many step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Grant and Helen McTaggart, her husband, Clyde, brother-in-law Donald (Irmagene) Ahlfeld, and sisters-in-law Eloise (Charles) Clodfelter and Norma (Sid) Clodfelter.
