- John F. Carpenter, 91, Marshall died Thursday (Oct. 1, 1998) at the Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was a retired self-employed carpenter. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union with the Rev. Glenn Arbuckle and Rev. Walter W. Voikers officiating. Burial followed in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday and Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Carpenter was born Feb. 24, 1907, in Clark County, the son of John Edgar and Florence Kincaid Carpenter. He married Genevieve Haddix on Oct. 24, 1931, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1991. Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda Carpenter of Marshall and Billy and Janet Carpenter of Marshall; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary, and Rudolph Taborn of Urbana; one sister. Helen Weir of Martinsville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Macke, an infant son, Paul Eugene Carpenter, one grandson, Gary Michael Macke, and 10 brothers and sisters. The family suggests, for those who wish, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or Parkinson’s Research Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
