Comments from his grand daughter: "Was a farmer, until he moved to Gentry, then worked on the railroad. When he retired from the railroad, he discovered that he had no social security, so he went to California, and got a job there and worked for several years, paying in on his social security so he could have a retirement. When he retired, he had a home in Gentry. Had a huge knot on his forehead for years, before having it removed.

When Grandpa first dated Grandma, he went over to her house and was sitting on the porch trying to find something to talk about. He was looking around when he saw this cat washing it's face. He said to Grandma, pointing to the cat, "I did that before I came over here." But by the time Grandma looked at the cat, it was washing it's balls. Grandpa was so embarrassed.

Grandpa's folks was in the Oklahoma land rush. He said they went there early and they road around looking for the land they wanted. Then they marked the area they were interested in, and then on the day of the rush, they went straight to the area and then staked it out. He said there were a lot of fights among the people, because some people went and stopped where other people had chosen, and then the fight would break out. Grandpa's folks chose a spot where they could break horses for the calvery, and also raise crops. Grandpa was born late in life. His brother was already in his teens when Grandpa came along. Doctors told his mother, that she had a tumor, and nine months later the tumor turned out to be Grandpa.

Grandpa got to meet Jesse James once. His band came by their house to get fresh horses. Grandpa's mother fixed them a meal while his dad swapped horses with them. Grandpa said they were really nice and when they got ready to leave, Jesse James gave him a gold piece, which he dropped down a hole in his bedroom floor. He said money did not mean much to him back then. Anytime anyone gave him money, he would drop it in the hole in the floor of his bedroom."
